Among the handful of animal-rights protestors on Main Street across from the front entrance to the courthouse was one accompanied by a small beagle mix on a leash. The dog, weighing perhaps 15 pounds, was outfiitted with a sandwich sign that said, “Dogfighters use dogs like me for bait.“
National and international media interest in Michael Vick appeared be waning, based on the number of satellite trucks lined up along Bank Street near the rear entrance of the federal courthouse in Richmond. With Vick’s sentencing hearing still more than 90 minutes away, 16 satellite trucks had set up along Bank Street between the courthouse and the state Capitol—roughly half the number that were in Richmond for Vick’s plea hearing in August. About 100 media representatives and about 20 animal-rights activists were at the courthouse.
Suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick is scheduled to be sentenced in federal court Monday for his role in a dogfighting ring.
The sentencing hearing, before U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson, is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. It could last two to four hours.
